www.kansascity.com/sports/chiefs/story/510695.htmlChiefs, Colquitt agree to termsBy ADAM TEICHER The Kansas City Star For days the Chiefs had done little but bid goodbye to some of their players. On Thursday, they managed to retain one. The Chiefs agreed to terms of a five-year contract with punter Dustin Colquitt. He would have become a restricted free agent today had the sides not come to the agreement. Unlike the veterans the Chiefs have recently released, Colquitt is young (25) and should continue to improve. “Our punter’s future is very bright,” coach Herm Edwards said. “We’re excited about having Dustin back. He’s done a great job for us. We’d just like him to have to punt the ball a little less frequently. It’s always good to retain your own young, ascending players.” Colquitt had the fifth-best net punting average in the league last season at 39.1 yards. The Chiefs were hoping to re-sign reserve defensive lineman Jimmy Wilkerson, but no contract agreement appeared imminent. Wilkerson was to become an unrestricted free agent and said he would be willing to talk with other interested teams. As a free agent last year, Wilkerson visited with the Green Bay Packers but eventually re-signed with the Chiefs.
