Washingtons Sean Taylor makes Pro Bowl team posthumously
Washington defensive back voted to team three weeks after he was shot to death.

Sean Taylor’s selection to the Pro Bowl was supposed to be a crowning moment during a season in which he became a truly dominant NFL safety.
Instead, it’s a tribute to a player who was tragically lost from the game at age 24.
The Washington safety was selected as an NFC representative to the 2008 Pro Bowl on Tuesday, three weeks after he was fatally wounded in a shooting at his home in Miami. Taylor was chosen as the conference’s top free safety in balloting by coaches, players and fans.
Otherwise the teams were dominated by players from the teams at the top of the standings. New England had eight players voted to the team; Dallas had 11 — including one non-starter, running back Marion Barber. Surprisingly, Jacksonville, 10-4, was one of seven teams without a player voted to the team.
The Packers had four players on the team, including Brett Favre, who will start at quarterback for the NFC. It is the ninth Pro Bowl for the 38-year-old Favre, his first since 2003.
San Diego, like New England, had eight players chosen. Minnesota was second in the NFC with seven.
Taylor is the only player known to have made an all-star team posthumously in any sport since goaltender Pelle Lindbergh made the NHL All-Star Game in February 1986.

NFL news
•APPEALS: Cowboys safety Roy Williams appealed the one-game suspension levied by the NFL for his third “horse-collar” tackle this season.
•RELEASED: Broncos punter Todd Sauerbrun was released. Sauerbrun ranks second in the AFC with a 46.8-yard punting average. But he was cited for disturbing the peace, simple assault and failure to pay a cab fare after an altercation with a cab driver Dec. 7.
•FINED: Five Falcons players (Roddy White, Alge Crumpler, DeAngelo Hall, Chris Houston and Joe Horn) were fined for displaying pro-Michael Vick tributes. White displayed a “Free Mike Vick” T-shirt under his jersey after scoring a touchdown. Among the other offenses were wearing of black eye strips with written tributes to Vick.
•GONE: Former Chiefs defensive end Eric Hicks, 31, was released by the Jets on Tuesday. He had been inactive for three of the last five games. The Jets also cut former Kansas offensive tackle Adrian Jones.
•STILL SERIOUS: Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga, who remains in serious discussions to sell the team to New York real-estate developer Steve Ross, has told friends he prefers to sell only 49 percent of the team right now.
•BLANKING: Falcons owner Arthur Blank reportedly is pursuing Bill Parcells to become the team’s vice president of football operations. Parcells could make a decision as early as today. He would not become the new coach. Sources say he would be able to hire the next coach and revamp the personnel department.
