LOUIS (TICKER) -- Pittsburgh Steelers running back Willie Parker is out for the season after breaking his leg in the first quarter of Thursday's game with the St. Louis Rams. Parker, the NFL's leading rusher entering the game, was injured on the Steelers' second play from scrimmage. X-rays confirmed that Parker fractured his right fibula. For the season, Parker rushed 321 times for 1,316 yards and two touchdowns. He caught 23 passes for 164 yards. "Our heart goes out to him because he's a competitor," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "As a football team we're not going to throw a 'pity party'. It's part of the game. People get hurt. We'll adapt and move forward. Nobody cares about our problems. They're probably glad we've got them." With Parker out, backup Najeh Davenport likely will assume the bulk of the playing time. The 28-year-old entered the game with 349 yards, three touchdowns and a 4.9 average on 71 carries. Davenprt carried 24 times for 123 yards and a touchdown and added two receptions for 44 yards and another score against St. Louis. "Najeh is going to be expected to do the same things that Willie does," receiver Hines Ward said. "Our offense isn't designed around one guy. I think Najeh did a phenomenal job stepping up and doing all of the things that Willie would have done if he had been in there."
