Moss, Roethlisberger cash in with new deals
The Associated Press
The New England Patriots are bringing back one of the NFL’s top players, and the Pittsburgh Steelers made their quarterback one of the league’s top-paid players.
Wide receiver Randy Moss, who set an NFL record with 23 touchdown catches and helped the Patriots reach the Super Bowl in his first season with the team, was re-signed Monday to a three-year deal worth $27 million, his agent said
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who has a Super Bowl championship on his resume, also has a lot more money. Roethlisberger signed an eight-year extension Monday worth $102 million.
Moss’ agent, Tim DiPiero, said his client’s deal included guarantees of $15 million, including a $12 million signing bonus. The signing was confirmed by the team shortly after Moss posted a message to fans on his Web site.
Roethlisberger’s contract guarantees him $36 million and is easily the largest in the Steelers’ 76-season history. The quarterback, who turned 26 Sunday, gets $25 million immediately as a signing bonus.
“I told them I didn’t want to go anywhere the day I walked in (as a rookie in 2004),” Roethlisberger said Monday. “I love Pittsburgh, I love the fans.”
