Arena rules
OFFENSE: Eight players, four must be on the line of scrimmage. One receiver may go in forward motion before the snap.
DEFENSE: Eight players, three must be down linemen. There are two linebackers, nicknamed the “mac” and “jack.” The “mac” linebacker is allowed to blitz on either side of the center. Under new rules, the “jack” linebacker can move from side to side within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage after the snap. Previously, the “jack” had to stay between the tackles until the ball was thrown.
THE FIELD: The playing field is 85 feet wide by 50 yards long with 8-yard end zones. The sideline barriers are 4 feet high. Receivers must have one foot inbounds to make a catch. Passes that bounce off the rebound nets are live balls until they hit the ground, and the receiving team can field kickoffs or missed field goals off the net.
HEADSETS: Under new rules, a defensive player will be allowed to use a helmet that allows communication with the coach on the sideline. Previously, only the quarterback was allowed to use the device.
