The deal is worth $3 million plus incentives. “Brett provides our pitching staff with a veteran presence,” Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. “We like his versatility and we feel he blends in well with the type of pitchers we currently have.” Tomko, a right-hander, will turn 35 on April 7. He is 93-92 with a 4.62 ERA in 11 seasons with the Reds, Mariners, Padres, Cardinals, Giants and Dodgers. Last season, Tomko was 4-12 with a 5.55 ERA in 40 appearances — 19 of them starts — for the Dodgers and Padres. Tomko is expected to compete for one of the final two spots in the Royals starting rotation behind Gil Meche, Brian Bannister and Zack Greinke.

I like the depth that it adds to the staff but just not sure that a pitcher who was 4-12 with a 5.55 ERA last season is worth $3 Million a Year. But at that good signing by Moore who just continues to add proven players to the team and give Hillman alot of options to choose from.
