www.kansascity.com/385/story/461290.htmlKU hires wide receivers coach from RiceBy J. BRADY McCOLLOUGH The Kansas City Star LAWRENCE | Kansas announced on Friday that David Beaty, who spent the past two seasons coaching the wide receivers at Rice, will be its new wide receivers coach. So KU football fans worried about their program’s Texas ties leaving with former wide receivers coach Tim Beck can stop worrying. Beaty (prounced Bay-tee) graduated high school in Garland, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, in 1989. He then began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Naaman Forest High in Garland from 1994-96, before becoming an assistant at his alma mater, Garland High, in 1997. In 2001, Beaty became the head coach at North Dallas High. He coached there for one year before taking over at Irving’s MacArthur High, where he won two district titles from 2002-05. So Beaty has the Texas ties covered. On the field with the Owls, he coached Rice wide receiver Jarrett Dillard to his nation-leading touchdown total of 21 in 2006. Beck, who left KU to be the running backs coach at Nebraska, also had background as a Texas high school football coach and was key to the Jayhawks’ success recruiting the state. Beaty certainly looks like a strategic move for Mark Mangino’s program to stay relevant in the Lone Star state.
