Mangino discusses his 2008 classKansas’ signing-day news conference, originally scheduled for last Wednesday, was canceled because of inclement weather. So KU coach Mark Mangino held court on Wednesday to discuss the Jayhawks’ 2008 class. Here are some highlights: •Mangino indicated that he wasn’t sure running back Jake Sharp, who will be a junior, could be counted on to replace Brandon McAnderson as an every-down back. So KU brought in highly touted junior-college running back Jocques Crawford. “We have some running backs who are talented guys, but do we have a guy that can carry the load if we need to?” Mangino asked. •Mangino expects another junior-college standout, Australian offensive tackle Nathan D’Cunha, to contribute next season. “He’ll be at one of the tackle positions,” Mangino said. “Which one remains to be seen.” •Spring practice will begin March 12 and end on Saturday, April 12. Mangino said four 2008 recruits are already enrolled and participating in winter workouts: Quarterback Kale Pick, tight end Nick Plato, wide receiver Rod Harris and D’Cunha.
