Chiefs need to turn Brodie and offense loose
Just think what will happen if and when the Chiefs let Brodie Croyle run a real offense.
Yes, he will make mistakes, and yes, he will throw some horrendous interceptions, just like all young quarterbacks do. But when you find a quarterback who can make all the throws, you build a team around him.
Just maybe that’s what the Chiefs will commit to, finally.

“(Peyton) Manning ... in trouble! He lost it! Oh, (he) got it back!”
| Gus Johnson, CBS play-by-play man, after Manning was stripped of the ball on the Colts’ game-winning drive by Tamba Hali.
“Oh, how fortunate (the ball) bounced right back to Peyton Manning.”
| Len Dawson, Chiefs Radio Network
JF: More times than not, especially on artificial turf, Hali’s punch-out would send the ball on a crazy bounce, perhaps to a waiting Chief. And who knows? With a Chiefs bounce, that could have set Croyle up for some late-game heroics.
•••
“You just see how fast the ball gets there.”
| Steve Tasker, CBS analyst, on Croyle’s arm strength
“I’m starting to like Brodie Croyle.”
| Johnson, after another laser throw from Croyle
“Whoa! What a throw! What a catch! Brodie Croyle put that ball in a shoebox!”
| Johnson, after Croyle’s missile to the end zone for a touchdown to Dwayne Bowe.
“Folks can see there’s just a quicker tempo with Brodie Croyle on the field.”
| Mitch Holthus, Chiefs Radio Network
“They’re being ultraconservative with Brodie Croyle. At some point, you’ve got to turn him loose.”
| Dawson
“We know the Chiefs play close to the vest. It’s now second and 20 and you feel something unbelievable has to happen for them to get a first down. You can see they almost have the mentality … just punt it away.”
| Tasker
JF: It is kind of sad that while many NFL teams truly believe they can convert second-and-long or third-and-long situations, the Chiefs act as if they have no chance. Few teams love to overwork their punter or kicker like the Chiefs do.
•••
“This is probably the best half of Chiefs defense in many, many, many, many, many years.”
| Bob Gretz, Chiefs Radio Network
“Years?”
| Dawson
JF: Perhaps it was. Sunday was the first time all season Indy went without a first-half touchdown, and the Colts had just 73 total yards in that half. Oh, and Manning’s first-half passer rating was 23.4.
•••
“They simply can’t handle Jared Allen.”
| Dawson on the Colts’ offensive line
“Even Ty Law is feeling the contagious effects of the Chiefs defense.”
| Holthus, after Law made a sound tackle
•••
“Adam Vinatieri, the most clutch kicker in NFL history, has gagged two in a row!”
| Holthus
“This is a hell of a game, except for the kickers.”
| Gretz, after the indoor misses by Vinatieri and Dave Rayner.
“The Chiefs are standing toe to toe with the defending Super Bowl champions in their crib!”
| Holthus
JF: It was a beat-up and wounded Colts team, but the Chiefs did stand toe to toe with them. And in the AFC Worst, where every team loses, moral victories do indeed count for something.
