On the Tennessee Titans:
The Titans, obviously, are a very physical football team. That’s kind of the way Jeff’s (coach Jeff Fisher) teams are built. A lot of youth on their football team, obviously. Very physical up front, offensively and defensively. Rushing with four most of the time. They have a very skilled quarterback (Vince Young). He makes a lot of plays — play breaks down, he runs around, hard to tackle. He can throw on the run. … He has the ability to extend plays with his legs. They’re a team that’s obviously still in the playoff hunt.
On the decision to delay Larry Johnson’s return an additional week:
He’s getting better, obviously. But he’s not where we feel that he can go in a game and play. But he’s gotten better every week. It’s a week-to-week decision, obviously. We’ll see where it’s at the end of this week, going into next week. I think, for him, probably mentally, if he can make it back, if he doesn’t have to worry about where he’s at to start the season off, he doesn’t have to worry about it in the offseason — that’s one way to look at it.
On the team’s effort after Sunday’s 41-7 loss at Denver:
When you lose a game like that, people say, ‘Did everyone give you effort?’ For the most part, games have been one score or tied going into the half. This one kind of bubbled on us. They got to 14-0 real fast, and they came back out and got two scores, and we weren’t able to come back offensively. It was one of those games that, after a while, guys were trying to make plays instead of doing their jobs. We let it get away from us.
On whether players have entered offseason mode early:
If they are, shame on them. Hopefully, they won’t go onto the field, because they’ll get hurt against these guys. You’d better be ready to play, because if you’re not, you’ll get hurt. If I sense it, I’ll get them out of the game because I’d hate for a player to get hurt. That’s not right.
On practice-squad tailback Jackie Battle, who could play Sunday if Kolby Smith, listed as questionable Tuesday with an injured knee, cannot play:
University of Houston running back. Was in Dallas camp. He’s a big, strong guy, 235 pounds, decent hands. Ran kind of a wide-open offense down there. Ran the ball decent, has some speed. For all his height, weight, speed, he looks the part. He hasn’t had a lot of opportunities, obviously. He’s just on the practice squad here. If there comes a time when we feel like we need to bring him up and look at him, we’ll bring up him and look at him.
