Brodie Croyle Q&A on Chan Gailey
Jan 18, 2008, 5:14:15 PM
Q: What are your first impressions of Chan Gailey?
CROYLE: “I am excited about it. He has been around a long time. He has called a lot of games. It is exciting for me. It is exciting for our offense and we are looking forward to it.”
Q: Have you visited with Chan?
CROYLE: “I have. We visited a little bit. We went over the general theme. It is going to be a good fit for our offense.”
Q: Do you like his philosophy, the way he wants to build an offense with no name?
CROYLE: “Yeah. That is how it should be. Whatever personnel you have you adapt to that. You don’t want to be hardheaded about stuff. The fact that he does not have a name on his offense means he is going to get in there and figure out what we do best. He is going to make the offense fit us.”
Q: How comforting is that he has a bunch of experience?
CROYLE: “It is comforting, especially being a young guy and having a young offense. We are very excited about it. It is just a matter of getting in there, getting to know all of his schemes, how he calls them and be ready to go for OTAs.”
Q: Did you like the description he gave of you?
CROYLE: “That is what it is. There are six or seven guys in this league that are proven and that is where all of us are trying to get to. You want to get to a point where they say he is a proven guy, he is one of the elite quarterbacks in this league. Until you get to that point you are still trying to fight and get to that point.”
Q: Did you get a feel for his personality? It seems like he is calm. Is that deceiving?
CROYLE: “I don’t know. I would imagine. I would imagine everybody has a little extra fire in him. I don’t think he is going to use the same language as Gun (defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham), but who knows.”
Q: Do you feel like they feel you are the franchise quarterback?
CROYLE: “I am not that guy yet. I did not prove that, but the fact they say I am the guy they are going to go with means they want me to be that guy. I am going to work as hard as I can this offseason and prove to them that I can be that guy next year.”
Q: Did you tell the Chan what you thought the team needed?
CROYLE: “No. I just met him for the first time today. We just briefly went over how we call things. I have to lot to worry about. How we can fix this thing is not one of them. I have got to figure out what I did well, figure out what I did bad and build on those things.”
Q: Are you looking forward to learning from him?
CROYLE: “Coaching at the college ranks you get a feel for the younger guys. He has coached in this league for a long time. He is going to be a great fit for our offense with us having a lot of older of guys, but at the same time with us for the most part being a young offense. We need a lot of teaching and he is going to be a perfect fit.”
Q: Any disappointment Mike Shula did not get the job?
CROYLE: “No. He is in a good position down there in Jacksonville. He is from Florida. I am sure he is not going to be to upset about it. We definitely got the right guy for what we have going on up here.”
Q: Have you been watching any football?
CROYLE: “I have. It is kind of frustrating watching teams that you played that are now playing in the AFC Championship Game. That proves how close this league. It is just a matter of a couple of plays here and there and you can be right there. It is good for all of us to sit and watch it. We can make that our aspiration for next year.”
