Sherron Collins answered with a slashing layup, and KU worked its way into a two-point lead at the half. Key stat: 9. The number of minutes Darrell Arthur played because of picking up his second foul with 9:09 to go. Second halfKey play: KU led 68-63 with 1:02 to go when MU’s Matt Lawrence intentionally fouled Brandon Rush. Rush went to the line and hit two free throws to give KU a 70-63 lead. Key stat: 31. The number of free throws KU shot in the second half compared with only 22 field-goal attempts. The Jayhawks made 21 of them, enough to come out on top. Notes•In Kansas’ first two Big 12 victories, the Jayhawks were greatly aided by their free-throw shooting, as they made 30 of 34 attempts. On Saturday night, the only thing they did well from the line was get there. Thirty personal fouls were called on Missouri players, which resulted in Kansas shooting 45 free throws — including 31 in the second half. The Jayhawks made just 28 of them. “We play a lot of basketball,” Russell Robinson said. “We should be able to knock them down. Fortunately today it didn’t hurt us.”
