First halfKey play: Brandon Rush hit a three-pointer with 2 minutes, 12 seconds left and gave KU a 40-26 lead. Key stat: 20-4. KU’s advantage in points in the paint over the taller Cyclones. Second halfKey play: The Jayhawks took control of the game when Russell Robinson found Mario Chalmers on the break for an open three that gave KU a 54-36 lead. Key stat: 25. The percent that the Cyclones shot in the second half. Notes•Kansas forward Darrell Arthur started despite injuring his calf muscle in practice on Tuesday. Arthur played tentatively in the first two minutes, tallying a missed shot, a turnover and a foul before KU coach Bill Self pulled him. When Arthur came back in, he was a different player, scoring 16 points, although he ended up with just one rebound in 19 minutes. •Self also shed light on Sherron Collins’ two-point performance by saying that Collins turned his right ankle during last Thursday’s practice. Collins is playing through pain. “He’s showing some guts being out there,” Self said. “There are a lot of athletes that this would be a one- or two-week deal. He’s not going to miss any time.”
