•Key play: A Darrell Arthur layup gave the Jayhawks a 41-36 lead, their largest of the half. Arthur had 14 points in the first half. •Key stat: 24-6. KU’s advantage in points in the paint. Second half•Key play: Trailing 67-64, Brandon Rush’s three-point attempt was blocked by 5-foot-11 guard A.J. Abrams. Rush is 6 feet 6. •Key stat: 11-2. Texas’ advantage in second-chance points in the second half. Notes•Texas stayed in the game early thanks to the hot shooting of big man Connor Atchley, who made all four of his three-point attempts in the first half. KU coach Bill Self seemed to think the Jayhawks gave Atchley too many open looks. “I think Atchley, percentagewise, is the best shooter in our league,” Self said. “But it’s a lot easier to make them when you dare him to shoot it a couple of times.” •While Atchley lit up KU from long range, the Jayhawks defended national player-of-the-year candidate D.J. Augustin as well as anybody has all season. Augustin made only one of 13 shots, finishing with just 10 points and five assists. •It was a night to be seen for former Texas football players. Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young and New York Giants cornerback Aaron Ross, fresh off a Super Bowl victory, were in attendance.
