BRADY McCOLLOUGH The Kansas City Star LAWRENCE | Kansas junior Brandon Rush won his first Big 12 player of the week honor, it was announced on Monday. Rush, who won three rookie of the week honors his freshman year, shared the recognition with Baylor’s Kevin Rogers. Kansas State’s Michael Beasley took home his eighth rookie of the week honor. Rush, a Kansas City native, averaged 18 points per game in KU’s wins over Iowa State and Kansas State, as the Jayhawks pulled even with Texas in the Big 12 standings. For good measure, he also threw in 3.5 rebounds and three assists per game. Rush leads the Jayhawks in scoring during Big 12 play at 14.2 points per game. Rogers also averaged 18 points – along with 11.5 rebounds – as the Bears won games at Colorado and against Missouri. Beasley, who tied a record with his 10th league honor, will set the record after next week with another week like this: He averaged 34.5 points and 13.0 rebounds in two K-State losses.
