MU may look for Hannah to shoot more
By MIKE DeARMOND

So much for Stefhon Hannah’s hope that stepping out of the limelight would help Missouri become a better basketball team.
Tonight, when Mizzou tries for its first victory in a true road game at Texas Tech, teammate Matt Lawrence will be pushing Hannah to take over every chance he gets.
“Stefhon can get to the basket,” Lawrence said. “He’s a smart enough player to know when to kick it out. But he needs to attack the basket more. He’s real slippery. He gets in there. He gets the shot off, too.
“If you’re getting to the basket like that, go ahead. I’m not going to say anything to him.”
If Missouri’s last two games have shown anything, it is that Hannah should follow Lawrence’s advice.
Missouri was down by 14 points at Iowa State before Hannah, the Tigers’ senior guard, took responsibility down the stretch. Hannah scored eight of his 16 points against the Cyclones in the final minute. MU lost anyway, 72-67 last Wednesday in Ames.
Hannah’s plan to involve his teammates more looked like it might work as the Tigers trailed Kansas by just two points at the half in Columbia on Saturday. With just under 14 minutes to play in the game, Hannah’s three-pointer drew MU within 50-48 of the unbeaten Jayhawks.
But with KU building its advantage to eight points, Hannah stepped up and scored six of his 23 points in the final 51 seconds.
“He had to,” said MU coach Mike Anderson, contemplating lineup switches tonight in order to shake the Tigers out of a two-game skid. “You’ve got to have a guy step up.”
But Missouri lost, 76-70.
Tonight’s opponent is in much the same predicament as the Tigers. Missouri comes in 11-7 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12 while the Red Raiders are 10-7 overall with the same league ledger as Mizzou.
Hannah — now Missouri’s leading scorer at 14.6 points as well as its leading assist man at 5.4 per game — seems resolved to try to lead the way.
“I don’t care how we win,” he said. “We just have to win.”
