Dorsey had 13 sacks last year and was an All-American at LSU. The Chiefs also had the No. 17 overall pick but made a trade with the Detroit Lions to move up two spots and take Virginia offensive guard/tackle Branden Albert. The Chiefs also have a second-rounder left to select today. The came into today's draft with 13 overall choices. The Chiefs sidestepped reported trade offers with the New Orleans Saints and instead drafted Dorsey to strengthen their defensive line after last week's trade of All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen. "I'm just excited to be a Chief," Dorsey said. Dorsey could be a risky pick, and some say he was available at No. 5 because some teams were worried a broken bone in his leg, which he suffered last year, would be a long-term concern. The Atlanta Falcons passed on Dorsey and instead chose Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan. Dorsey missed three games because of the leg injury but still had 67 tackles and seven sacks during LSU's national championship season. In the second round the Chiefs selected cornerback Brandon Flowers of Virginia Tech.
